ORIGIN & PURPOSE

About UMIP

UMIP Inc. is a research and development company focused on advancing digital infrastructure for the built environment.

The company is developing Persistent Infrastructure Identity (PIID), a framework designed to provide physical infrastructure assets with a permanent digital identity that persists across ownership changes, lifecycle systems, and operational transitions.

By introducing a stable identity layer for infrastructure assets, the UMIP framework aims to improve lifecycle transparency, documentation continuity, and interoperability across the systems used to design, construct, operate, and insure infrastructure.

UMIP operates from Dallas, Texas, and is focused on supporting the long-term modernization of infrastructure lifecycle management across the global construction sector.

Our Mission

UMIP was founded to address a structural challenge within the built environment.

While infrastructure systems have become increasingly digital, the physical assets themselves rarely maintain a persistent identity across the many systems and stakeholders involved in their lifecycle.

This fragmentation creates significant operational friction across infrastructure documentation, maintenance history, risk evaluation, and asset governance.

The mission of UMIP is to establish a global infrastructure identity framework that enables infrastructure assets to maintain continuous digital identities across the systems that interact with them.

Research & Development

UMIP’s work is focused on research and development related to digital identity systems for infrastructure assets.

This research explores how persistent identity frameworks can support:

• lifecycle documentation continuity

• infrastructure data interoperability

• risk evaluation transparency

• infrastructure governance models

• long-term infrastructure lifecycle management

The development of Persistent Infrastructure Identity represents an effort to introduce a foundational identity layer for the built environment similar to identity systems used in other industries.

A Global Infrastructure Vision

The built environment represents one of the largest and most complex systems on the planet.

Infrastructure assets operate across decades, multiple ownership transitions, and a wide range of operational systems.

UMIP’s long-term goal is to help establish a globally interoperable identity framework capable of supporting the lifecycle continuity of infrastructure assets across regions, systems, and institutions.

By introducing persistent identity infrastructure for the built world, the UMIP framework aims to help reduce fragmentation and support more transparent infrastructure lifecycle management.
